Family fun on the beach

Year after year, our family meets at Sanibel Beach Club II, a wonderful RCI affiliated resort, to enjoy a fun-filled, relaxing time away from the stress of everyday life. We spend a lot of time around the pool and take many long walks on the beach either to the tip of the island or down into town where all the restaurants and shops are set up. There is no shortage of things to do which is good as the range is ages is quite vast. A good time is always had by all!

Spring Camp

Along the gulf coast of Florida, is a hidden gem on Bradenton Beach - Smuggler's Cove Resort. The resort offers beautiful sunsets along the gulf coast. On the back side of the resort, they have a Florida-style deck to gather with others to recap one's adventures of the day.... There is a trolley which runs the length of the island, taking you to local hot spots. Within walking distance is a host of bars and restaurants. This modest resort reflects the style of old Florida, offering a truly relaxing getaway...Play on the beach in the morning and sit on the deck after the sunset...casting a fishing pole in the water to see what might hit. My husband brought in a 28" redfish, the perfect end to a wonderful vacation getaway!!!

FORE! A golfing vacation

Marcel O. - Occidental Vacation Club1I consider myself very fortunate. I live and work in the Dominican Republic and spend much of my time in Punta Cana where there are plenty of great opportunities to golf. My role takes me all around the Caribbean to great resorts and great golf courses. Even with all that, one of my favorite vacations is (you guessed it), golf, golf and more golf.

Each year a group of my golf buddies and I get together for a golf trip. Before we even leave we are counting down to the excursion. Three weeks. Two weeks. One week. We even shop for the perfect attire; making sure to match our socks with our belts. It can be a bit extravagant.

For six years, our tradition has been to go to a great location and play a round of golf every day for seven days. Sometimes we even play two rounds the same day. We tee off early enough to go for 36 holes on many days.  And certainly, by the time we get to the 19th hole we are reliving the first 18 holes all over again…which certainly makes it seem like we have played two rounds at the end of the day.

Most years we have gone to Myrtle Beach, SC to be challenged with the great courses that the area is known for – TPC Myrtle Beach, Barefoot courses, among others. This year, however, we changed the destination to Florida and tackled a course at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando and Copperhead Course in Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club near Tampa. We also played on some other great courses, such as Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course and the Reunion Resort’s Palmer, Nicklaus and Watson courses. Whether it’s a Fazio-designed or Nicklaus-created course, no matter what, we are there to have fun and challenge the course.

We are setting our goals high as we start planning next year’s trip and the next.  Our group hopes to get to destinations like Pinehurst, or maybe England, Ireland and…Scotland…where it all began.

This may not be the Masters, but it certainly is the best “tournament” ever to a group of guys from the Dominican Republic.  We are already counting down to next spring!

PS:  handicap 2, wishing to be 0 hcp, one day!!!

LHVC Resort - Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

This beautiful and tranquil resort is nestled below picturesque mountains and sparkling blue waters. Although the beach sands are not white as in Punta Cana, the beaches have lovely shaded areas due to the bountiful number of coconut palms bordering the water. The staff are extremely friendly and eager to help in any way possible to make your staff as memorable as possible. Can't wait to return there for another perfect holiday.

Village Caraibe Tennis, Golf & Beach Resort

My daughter was doing volunteer work in the Dominican Republic and wound up with acute appendicitis. I called RCI telling them of the emergency and they got me a great resort for two weeks on a day's notice! It was beautiful...just what one would expect for a tropical island. Even though the reason for my going there was frightening (my daughter had an emergency appendectomy), Puerto Plata was friendly, clean, beautiful, and the people were helpful and did everything they could to make our stay wonderful. I'd definitely go back, but hopefully under better circumstances!

Myrtle Beach, SC

In addition to enjoying the facilities at the resort such as the lazy river, swimming pool, poolside bar, etc., we ventured out to Brookgreen Gardens. Beautiful grounds, sculptures, ponds, fountains, flowers and butterflies. This was something I wouldn't normally expect at a beach resort. Totally enjoyed our entire experience and would return.

Myrtle Beach in August

What a fantastic time in Myrtle Beach, SC this August! We selected a three bedroom resort in Plantation Village so that my entire family could vacation together. We had cousins, aunts and grandparents together under one roof to enjoy each other's company. During the day, we traveled to Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach and Broadway at the Beach. During the evenings, we'd head home to make a glorious family dinner, share precious memories and enjoy ourselves. We're looking forward to visiting Myrtle Beach and Plantation Village again soon!

Dominican Republic Trip 2008

Lifestyle Crown Villas is where we went on our honeymoon. What a great resort. We want to bring back our friends and family. We had a villa that sleeps 8 people. We had chefs that made us breakfast and dinner. We had a golf cart to get around. The pool was great with a private beach. We had dinners that were great, the lamb chops were fantastic! I would recommend this resort.

Honeymoon Gift 2000

For our wedding present a member of our family gave us their exchange week. The RCI Vacation Guide was so helpful when we chose a location to exchange. It was the tone that set the whole vacation. The resort entertainment staff made our vacation unforgettable. We played the newlywed game and beach volleyball and sang Karaoke. We had a wonderful time at an RCI designated Gold Crown Resort and are now RCI subscribing members ourselves. Thank you for a wonderful honeymoon.

A honeymoon in paradise

Jen B. - RCI Weeks Destination TipsCrystal clear waters, soft sandy beaches and luxurious pampering…if you’re looking for an amazing honeymoon destination Cancun has it all!

My husband and I arrived on a sunny Saturday in June and were whisked away to our resort. From the minute we arrived we knew it was going to be a week to remember. We were met at the door with coconut milk and refreshing towels. Upon arrival in our room we were surprised to find a small cake congratulating us on our honeymoon! That kind of attention to detail and personal service didn’t stop there. Everyone we encountered throughout our trip was incredibly friendly and eager to help. From bringing us drinks on the beach, to setting up umbrellas and filling our tub, the service was exceptional, just one of the great things to experience with Cancun hospitality.

The greatest thing about our trip was amazing options Cancun had to offer. We could spend the day sitting on the beach, take a walk down to the local town for some shopping or go on an adventure to one of the many attractions nearby…and we did it all. Our little adventure took us to Chichen Itza, a capital city of the ancient Mayan civilization. We planned our tour through the resort and had a wonderful time exploring the ruins, learning the history and experiencing the culture of this amazing place. The tour even took us to a local restaurant for some traditional Mexican food.

Overall we couldn’t have chosen a better place to spend our honeymoon. We can’t wait to go back and do it all over again!

Come back to the RCI Blog this week to read stories and see photos of RCI subscribing members who have honeymooned at an RCI affiliated resort. Do you have a great photo or story about your honeymoon at an RCI affiliated resort? If so, share it here and we may feature it at the end of the week!

Love Mazatlan

We have now been twice to Mazatlan. We like to visit as we have friends who live there in the winter. We have stayed at the Mayan Resort properties and the Pueblo Bonito Resort at Emerald Bay (our favorite). Both times we have enjoyed our stay. With miles of beautiful sandy beaches, dry and warm weather, it is a great winter vacation spot. Nowhere else in Mexico, after 12 visits to various spots, have we found a city that reflects a less touristy feel and more homey feeling. Also the best bang for your buck, for dining in or out. Many of the local restaurants are owned by people who came to Mazatlan and never left. This year our children used an Extra Vacations getaway to go to Mazatlan and fell in love with it. I have other friends planning to go back for 2 weeks for the 3rd year in a row...

LOVE Cabo!

My husband and I are in love with Cabo. We travel there every year, staying at a different RCI affiliated resort every time. Last year we had a girl trip in Cabo. We've stayed at Playa Grande Resort, Pueblo Bonito Resort at Sunset Beach and next year will be staying at Finisterra Club & Resort. The weather, food & fun is exceptional. We've also been to Puerto Vallarta 6 times and loved it there, also. Next up… Cancun!

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach – Cabo

Because we loved our first exchange in Cabo, we decided to do another and tried Pueblo Bonito Resort at Sunset Beach. What a beautiful resort! We hated to leave. From the breathtaking views of the ocean, the awesome landscaping, the variety of birds, the excellent restaurants, numerous pools to opt to visit, the exceptional staff, the great accommodations… it was truly paradise.

Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort

Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort - This was our first trip outside of the USA. The Caribbean is definitely a great place to go. We spent Christmas 2009 there. It was a big change having Christmas like this when you are from New England. We will be returning!

Aruba

We had additional points left at the end of the year 2 years ago. We've always heard that Aruba had great beaches and a friendly safe island. But the high season starts at the end of December. We traded our points for a vacation just before the Christmas rush to this Island and found the off season great. There were no great crowds, the restaurants really appreciated our business and so did our resort. The weather was slightly cooler than later but we don't want to burn anyway! We had a great trip and found other people who appreciate the off season travel times. What a wonderful trip, we were able to stay across from one of the best beaches, could walk to a lot of activities and enjoy the activities at our resort and the local area. I'm open to trying new vacation resorts in areas we haven't explored in the past! We can't say enough about the benefits we have with our timeshare.
