I spent part of my youth growing up in California and I remember driving on the freeway and, from time to time, seeing an exit sign here or there that would say: Carlsbad. I always thought the name itself was kind of cool... but who knew the actual city was so great!
About 8 years ago my wife and I along with our four kids exchanged through RCI and stayed at a beautiful Grand Pacific Resort in Carlsbad and to this day, my kids say that was one of their favorite trips of all time (and believe me.... we've been on some awesome vacations)!
The first thing we liked was the easy accessibility. Carlsbad is built up on both sides of the I-5 Freeway and everything seems to be just minutes away. The resort we stayed at was about 5 minutes from the beach but built atop a small mountain crest with total, unobstructed views of the southern California coast - the sunsets were simply inspiring!
The next thing we liked about Carlsbad was all the fun shops and restaurants. We love to explore new shops and enjoy different restaurants when we go on vacation and Carlsbad has plenty of both. Since it's right on the coast, it's swimming with great seafood and tons of shops with a "beach boy" flare. Everything is fun and laid back at the same time and the locals all seem to have those same qualities woven into their DNA.
Another great thing about Carlsbad is its proximity to the theme parks. Seaworld is less than 30 minutes south in San Diego and Lego Land is only minutes away... and if you want to drive a little further north, you can still take in Disneyland.
Yup, my family and I LOVED Carlsbad. If Southern California is a place you've always wanted to go... or if you've been there before but haven't checked out Carlsbad, put it down as the next place for your next vacation!
Well, my parents told me we were going on vacation. I got to the airport --that plane was bigger than the world! We got on the plane and took off. Why did they go soooo fast? I wasn't in that big of a hurry! When we got to Cabo , our resort was the best..Swimming pools and slides and a beach just feet away. Where do I start? Well one day I played in the pool all day. Another day we went to pier and I couldn't believe my eyes---there was Captain Hook--my good friend! Then I tried on several sombreros. Why are they so big! Next day I went para sailing--how fun. While at divorce beach I held 6 iguanas. Mom and dad said NO to bringing one home. I spent another day at my resort. What fun.. This is my story thru the eyes of a 4 year old.
Three years ago I had booked a resort for my family in Cancun, Mexico. It was the day after Christmas and we were excited about leaving snowy Salt Lake City, Utah. However, when we arrived at the airport, our plane to Cancun was overbooked so we could not all make the flight. Next to the Cancun flight gate, there was a flight leaving to Cabo San Lucas. They had seats for us! I called RCI from the airport and told them the situation. The customer service rep told me that he could switch us to a resort in Cabo without any additional charges. So all 7 of us flew to Cabo. We took a taxi to the Pueblo Bonito Resort at Sunset Beach. The porters at the resort drove us to our unit via golf carts. The resort is built on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We entered our unit and were wowed! It was a 4 bedroom Presidential Suite with the most awesome view of the ocean. On our balcony was our own hot tub. Our family had a tremendous week of fun at this beautiful resort. This resort and its staff were 5 Star. I can only say thank you RCI for helping us to experience family memories together that we will treasure forever!
Last Fall my husband and I, just recently retired, took a trip of a lifetime. After the wedding of our son on October 9, in Banff, Canada we set out for Vancouver, where we toured and visited friends. Then off we ventured down the west coast highway. I had booked 7 RCI affiliated resorts from Point Arena, to Palm Springs. From there we set off to Lake Havasu, then to Las Vegas, then Sedona. After that we returned to Lake Havasu and then to Palm Springs. Then we returned to Canada for Christmas. We saw so much beautiful scenery and stayed in some great places. Thanks to our RCI membership we were able to visit so many wonderful places and see so many incredible things. We went to flea markets, climbed mountains, walked on the beach, road through the Redwood forest, did some wine tasting, visited the Living Desert, went on a desert tour in Sedona and gambled in Las Vegas. We put 19,720 km on our vehicle. We have so many great memories.
I want to tell you about Cabo! I just loved it there! I was amazed by all the cactus and foothills surrounded by the gorgeous deep blue water. The rock formations and the Arch in the Sea of Cortez are spectacular! Locals said that it only rains approximately 11 days a year. Since I live in Florida, I noticed the lack of humidity and enjoyed it immediately. It was true desert conditions, in the 80's during the day and cooled nicely each evening. This was a timeshare trade for me, staying at the RCI Gold Crown, five-star resort Pueblo Bonito Resort at Sunset Beach. The resort is situated on the Western side of the tip of Baja, on a hillside overlooking the Pacific. This spectacular getaway provides incredible views from hacienda-style villas overlooking a magnificent expanse of private beach and sparkling deep blue sea. This has to be the most fantastic resort I have ever experienced. The luxurious all-suite accommodations along with five ocean-view pools was amazing. Even though the beach there is non-swimmable because of the strong currents, walks on the beach and listening to the pounding waves was breathtaking. There is magnificent dining on property but be certain to make reservations. All the restaurants are very popular, The Spa massages and facials were relaxing and delightful. The resort provides complimentary shuttle golf carts to escort guests around the property. They also offer a shuttle bus to adjacent Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, and nearby (10 minutes) to Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos as well as Pueblo Bonito Rose where you can enjoy full use of all amenities and restaurants. These properties are adjacent to each other and are located on one of the best swimmable beaches in Los Cabos, Medano Beach. This is also near downtown and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Be sure to try the tortilla soup at The Office. Best I have ever tasted! And you can dine with your feet in the sand! The marina is also located nearby providing boats for diving, whale watching, deep sea fishing and glassbottom boats with boat tours for spectacular views of Lover's Beach and the Arch.
The Los Cabos International airport is approximately 45 minutes from the resort and is near the quaint town of San Jose del Cabo. I recommend arranging transportation with the resort in advance of your arrival. If you rent a car be certain to drive approximately 30 minutes up the Pacific coast to Todos Santos to visit the famed Hotel California and many other interesting shops and sights in that area.
As you can tell I definitely enjoyed Cabo and certainly recommend that you experience this destination for your next vacation. The people are extremely friendly and accommodating and do everything possible to make your vacation a wonderful memory!
We first exchanged to Costa Rica as a favor to my sister. However, we soon realized what a special, wonderful place it is. Through RCI we were able to stay at a resort overlooking an incredible beach and bay and enjoy nightly sunsets over the Pacific. It quickly became a habit (that lasted through subsequent trips to the same resort) to be sure we were in place, either on our patio or at the infinity pool, for the sunset. Not once have we been disappointed. Thanks to RCI and our subscribing membership, we have been able to make many wonderful memories of Costa Rica, including the sunsets, marlin fishing, exploring the rainforest and volcano, and meeting some absolutely wonderful people.
Our vacation exchange through RCI in Costa Rica was fantastic! It was the perfect blend of incredible scenery, abundant wildlife, relaxation and adventure. We enjoyed our stay at the Ecoplaya Beach Resort on the Northern coast as the beautiful beaches were virtually deserted. We definitely will be going back, hopefully with more family members in tow!
Our trip to St. Maarten was a delightful, fun trip. We brought our aunt and uncle with us and while we were in St. Maarten we renewed our wedding vows on Pelican Beach. It was a beautiful experience...The Sapphire Beach Club was a very nice resort. We had a wonderful time and are planning on returning to St. Maarten next year.
Last summer, my wife and I, along with another couple, planned a vacation to St. Maarten for a week of sun and relaxation on the beach. We decided to go during July, which is considered their “off season,” so it was nice and quiet. We stayed at the Atrium Beach Resort and Spa, located right on Simpson Bay and close to everything!
St. Maarten is a beautiful island with lots to do, see and experience. One day, we went around the island to the various towns and beaches to shop and eat. Another day, we went ocean kayaking to a beach close to our resort. At that beach, there was an outdoor bar with live music. There was even free Wi-Fi, so I was able to get onto the internet from my phone. It was nice to check back into civilization every so often!
In my opinion, the one thing you must do when you visit St. Maarten is go to the famous Maho Beach. This is the beach where the planes fly so close to it, it looks like you can touch them. Located next to this beach is an outdoor restaurant where you can sit, order food and watch the planes fly in. People we spoke to there had spent hours sitting and watching.
After spending 7 days on the island there was still so much to do. I’m looking forward to my next trip back! To learn more about St. Maarten, check out this article from the North America version of Endless Vacation® magazine. Or, come back to the RCI Blog this week, where you can read stories and see photos from RCI subscribing members who have traveled to this amazing island. Trust me, these photos are incredible and really make me want to plan my next trip back.

Grand Bahamas. What you see is hundreds of beautiful white fish swimming around our legs at Island Resort beach. It was so awesome. The fish were so soft when they brushed up against you, but quick enough that you couldn't touch them with your hands. I will never forget that experience.
Our family, plus a couple of extra teenagers, went on the most fabulous adventures while staying at the Westwind Club. We asked about parasailing and one hour later we left from the beach at our resort on an exhilarating ride up into the air...we could see most of the island from way up there...There is so much to do on Nassau. It is so easy to travel around the island either by taxi or public transportation - a jitney bus. Downtown has great shopping and restaurants as well as Pirates of Nassau (a pirate museum) were we had the most amusing pictures with "arrrrr" pirate friend. We look forward to other adventures on Nassau.

We received thousands of stories from our subscribing members and want to share them with you. Although we've corrected some spelling and technical errors, the stories are otherwise unchanged (you'll notice that the tone differs from story to story). We don't mean for these stories to inform you about resorts, destinations or even about RCI products and services. For example, some stories talk about unusual exceptions made or circumstances that may not be typical for most vacationers. As usual, we recommend that you do your own research about resorts, destinations, etc. when making travel arrangements. However, these stories are actual accounts that we've received and we think you'll find it as enjoyable as we did to find out about the different experiences other RCI vacationers have had through our programs.
