Florida Vacation

We went to Summer Bay Resort near Orlando, Florida and absolutely had the best time. My daughter and I took my 2 grandkids and we went to Walt Disney World. My grandson, Jordan, turned 4 while we were there and had a little birthday party at the resort. He had such a wonderful time. It rained almost everyday while we were there but we made a good trip out of it even with the rain. Summer Bay Resort was the most awesome place to stay and such a beautiful resort. We loved it so much that we are going back next month to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday as well. Her name is Taylor and she will be 2 years old. This trip was by far the best trip I have ever been on through RCI.

FORE! A golfing vacation

Marcel O. - Occidental Vacation Club1I consider myself very fortunate. I live and work in the Dominican Republic and spend much of my time in Punta Cana where there are plenty of great opportunities to golf. My role takes me all around the Caribbean to great resorts and great golf courses. Even with all that, one of my favorite vacations is (you guessed it), golf, golf and more golf.

Each year a group of my golf buddies and I get together for a golf trip. Before we even leave we are counting down to the excursion. Three weeks. Two weeks. One week. We even shop for the perfect attire; making sure to match our socks with our belts. It can be a bit extravagant.

For six years, our tradition has been to go to a great location and play a round of golf every day for seven days. Sometimes we even play two rounds the same day. We tee off early enough to go for 36 holes on many days.  And certainly, by the time we get to the 19th hole we are reliving the first 18 holes all over again…which certainly makes it seem like we have played two rounds at the end of the day.

Most years we have gone to Myrtle Beach, SC to be challenged with the great courses that the area is known for – TPC Myrtle Beach, Barefoot courses, among others. This year, however, we changed the destination to Florida and tackled a course at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando and Copperhead Course in Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club near Tampa. We also played on some other great courses, such as Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course and the Reunion Resort’s Palmer, Nicklaus and Watson courses. Whether it’s a Fazio-designed or Nicklaus-created course, no matter what, we are there to have fun and challenge the course.

We are setting our goals high as we start planning next year’s trip and the next.  Our group hopes to get to destinations like Pinehurst, or maybe England, Ireland and…Scotland…where it all began.

This may not be the Masters, but it certainly is the best “tournament” ever to a group of guys from the Dominican Republic.  We are already counting down to next spring!

PS:  handicap 2, wishing to be 0 hcp, one day!!!

Hawaiian Wedding 2007

My husband had been an RCI subscribing member for many years before we met. We used the unit at his home resort a few times, but after our engagement on Feb. 14, we decided to go to Hawaii for our wedding...We stayed in Kona for 4 days before island jumping over to Maui for a week. Both resorts were wonderful. Two days before flying back home to Virginia we got married on the beach. Just us, the minister, a photographer, and two sea turtles who crashed the ceremony. It was truly the trip of a lifetime. Almost two years later we are beginning to plan another vacation through RCI, this time to Walt Disney World for our new son.

Our First Cruise with Disney Cruise Line…A “Dream” Come True!

Catherine S. - Cruise Stories and RCI NewsEvery year, my husband and I visit Walt Disney World, our favorite vacation destination.  Last year, for our fifth wedding anniversary, we decided it was time for a change.  So we booked a Caribbean cruise on the Disney Dream.

We set sail in late March 2011, just a few months after the Dream joined Disney Cruise Line’s fleet.  We’ve both cruised before and enjoyed it, but cruising with Disney was even more perfect for us – we are, after all, just a couple of big kids.  The trip combined all of the fun of cruising with the magical feeling that we love about the Disney theme parks.

Our days were spent exploring the different ports – in Nassau, we went on an excursion where we learned how to roll cigars, and at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, we enjoyed some quiet time under the sun on the beautiful beach.  We spent evenings in the Skyline lounge, where the windows show the skylines of different cities, enjoyed dinner at Animator’s Palate where we got to “talk” to Crush, the 150-year-old turtle from Finding Nemo, and greeted characters at almost every turn!
Our cruise adventure ended up being the best way to celebrate our anniversary – we’re ready for our next one!

I’ve read a lot of stories and seen many photos from RCI members who have also been on cruises. We’ll be sharing these stories and pictures on the RCI Blog this week…be sure to come back!

Trip to Orlando

Our family vacation to Orlando was great...we went to all of the major attractions and several of the local attractions also. We purchased tickets with the Park Hopper Option for the Walt Disney World theme parks and went to all of them. We went to Universal Studios where our kids had a blast. We spent the day at SeaWorld Orlando...The kids loved the huge kids' area and played for hours. We spent time on International Drive and ate at several of the I-drive local eateries. My wife and daughter enjoyed the many shops on I-drive and the Mall at Millenia. We took the entire family to Gatorland and actually got to see a real live gator wrestling show. I have never seen so many alligators in one place. We visited the world famous Cocoa Beach and went to Ron Jon Surf Shop. The sand was snow white and like powder. We ate lunch at one of the local seafood restaurants and the catch was caught that morning. We visited the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and took the tour and had a great time. There was so much to do in Orlando you can't do it in a week, you would need a month and you probably still wouldn't do or see everything. We can't wait to go back and do it again.

Orlando 2007

A family vacation to the Sheraton Vistana Resort in Orlando was the highlight of our year. With our 4 daughters all under the age of 7 the accommodations and location were ideal. We could have done without the Disney passes and spent time just hanging around the resort and taking advantage of all of the amenities which it had to offer. We were glad that we had banked our week from a year or two earlier when we were not able to take a vacation and then use it when it was a convenient time for us.

Orlando, Florida – The right mix of sun, water and breeze

Manju S. - Vacation Stories from an RCI Associate

Warm breezes welcome guests as they arrive, taking away the winter blues from those of us traveling from up North. Lighter clothes, a slower pace of life and plenty of fun activities – a great escape from the office chatter.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort in nearby Kissimmee, which was one of the many beautiful resorts in the area. We started to unwind by playing golf and lounging around the pool. The pools are kid-friendly and there are many surrounding play areas to keep them busy.

Our resort was close to Walt Disney World – a great benefit when traveling with kids. One day, we traveled to one of the theme parks and the fun rides kept all of us entertained. The next day, we went to SeaWorld Orlando…it is amazing to see the sophisticated interaction between humans and animals! SeaWorld had a lot of space to sit, eat and walk around. We enjoyed the evening show "A Sesame Street Christmas". The script was good and the actors really brought life to the characters!

I enjoyed every moment in Orlando. The sun warmed the heart, the water got the body moving and the breeze soothed the soul. Orlando really gives a great opportunity to go back in time, to being a kid again!

Disney World Trip 2008

It was our son's 10th birthday and we promised him that we would go to Walt Disney World. We stayed at one of the wonderful affiliated resorts there in Kissimmee, Florida and ended up buying a timeshare. It was so great to be able to fix our own meals and the kids could go swimming everyday! We had so much fun and it was so relaxing. We were only 10 minutes away from the theme parks...some nights we could see the fireworks from our place too! It made our son's birthday even better when they gave him a button that said that it was his birthday and everyone at the theme parks all told him "Happy Birthday!" If I had my way we would always stay at a resort for vacation because we can cook our own food, relax, and do laundry so I don't have a whole bunch to do when we get home. It is just like being home, but near a fun place to play too!

Disney World

My family lives close to Disneyland in California, so we never were very interested in visiting Walt Disney World in Florida. But the kids suggested it as a family vacation idea, and we started to look into lodging options. We exchanged our week and stayed at the Orange Lake West Village in Kissimmee. It was beautiful. The condo was fully equipped with two bedrooms, two baths and a full kitchen. They had a gorgeous pool area with several swimming pools, slides and a lazy river to float around. It was super-close to all the attractions of Orlando: Disney's Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios and Sea World, to name a few. We concentrated on the theme parks that we don't have here in Southern California, like Epcot, Sea World's Aquatica and Universal's Islands of Adventure. We had a great time and would definitely go back-- but only if we stay at a luxurious RCI affiliated resort.

How a Simple Road Trip Led Me to the Magic of Disney!

Aya E. - RCI Marketing and Travel UpdatesThe first time I visited Walt Disney World, it was New Year’s Eve of ’08. It was one of the final stops of an East coast road trip, timed so that my husband and I could experience the midnight fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom.  It was the best light show we had ever seen, bar none.  The countdown to midnight was written in brightly colored fireworks and every angle of the sky was alight.  And unlike the fairytale, it wasn’t over when the clock struck 12 o’clock.  The party continued until 3am, from dance parties on Main Street to rides with virtually no lines. Since then I’ve been back to Disney almost every year.  I love the rides and want to share 3 of my favorites:

1. Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom – I felt like I was at the top of Everest! There’s even a yeti when you reach the peak.
2. Soarin’ at Epcot –The experience felt like I was actually hang gliding over California! I could feel the fresh ocean breeze as I flew over the Golden Gate Bridge and even “dipped” my feet into the Pacific.
3. Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios – This one is definitely my all-time favorite. I have ridden this plummeting elevator at least a dozen times – but the most memorable part was the eerie bell hop who ushered me in.

I look forward to my next trip to Disney. With amazing fireworks shows and incredible rides, I hope you enjoy your next trip there, too!

This week on the RCI blog, we’ll be showing you photos and stories from RCI subscribing members who also took a vacation to Disney. Be sure to check back! And if you have a story or photo of your own, submit it here and maybe we’ll feature on this blog it at the end of the week!

My Birthday 2009

I had not had a real birthday party in a long time, so I decided to throw myself one! Fortunately, I found a Last Call vacation through RCI at the beautiful Kings Creek Plantation resort in Williamsburg, VA. It was very reasonably priced but when I got there, I thought, "Oh my, I should have paid waaaay more for this." It was so nice to have my family come with me. We had enough room for everyone! One of my husband's gifts to me was 'Guitar Hero' and my family and I had a blast taking turns playing it on the big screen television! I was skeptical at first because we are fairly new to the whole timeshare thing, but now that we're confident that RCI will do their best to accommodate our needs, we won't travel any other way! As a matter of fact, we're leaving Monday for a week in Walt Disney World...yippee!

Amazing Orlando Vacation

WOW! That's what our entire family said when we walked into our first RCI exchange unit at Kissimmee Florida. We had seen photos of Orange Lake Country Club online, but it didn't compare to the beautiful grounds, fountains, unit, and facilities where we were granted access. We had anticipated spending all of our time at Walt Disney World, but with all of the extra ammenities and activities available, we stayed at the resort most evenings and afternoons. Our individual unit also was nicer than anything we could have imagined. It was really a home away from home.

Baseball Spring Training in Florida

For the last three years my wife and I have traveled to Orlando for vacation. We first went to Walt Disney World and other activities in the area. We went to three Braves baseball games during the March spring training. The next year we went to nine baseball games but included the Astros to our game plan all in the same Orlando area.

Well, last year we used our RCI subscribing membership and traded into five weeks of timeshares for 31 spring training games in 34 days. It was a lot of fun and we got season tickets at the Nationals and the Astros parks. We had the same seats every day so the people we were sitting with became friends and we will do it again this year. What a great way to spend a vacation and enjoy friends that we have met in past years.

Disney Trip 2009

We had a wonderful summer vacation at the Disney Saratoga Springs Resort. Not only was the resort one of the best that we ever exchanged for but our two daughters age 19 and 14 realized how wonderful our RCI affiliated timeshare really is. They talked about how when they are married they want to vacation together and use our timeshare as a way to build onto their great vacation memories. It was so nice to hear that not only do they look forward to our vacations together but also that they see the worth of our timeshare and how they want the same experience for their families in the future.

Christmas in Orlando

I chose to take my daughter and one of her friends to my resort in Orlando, Florida during her Christmas break. I was a little apprehensive as it was our first time being away from home during the holidays. My apprehension turned to excitement as soon as we drove in to the resort!! One of my and my daughter's favorite things about Christmas is the joy we get out of decorating for the occasion and the resort was so festive...we even had a tree in our room.

Universal Studios and Walt Disney World were so close we decided to visit both!! All of the people at the resort were so nice and accomodating.

On Christmas day we decided to go to the beach. We found a lot of really neat shells and right before we left there was a rainbow!! Thanks to RCI and life's simple pleasures we had a very memorable vacation!!
