RCI is proud to support Christel House

Geoff Ballotti, Chief Executive Officer, RCI

By now, you’re likely familiar with Christel DeHaan and her wonderful charity, Christel House, that helps break the cycle of poverty by giving impoverished children and their families something that we all take for granted: education. You’ve heard stories of children who have gone through the program and come out to be successful and happy, and to share their successes with their communities. You’ve heard about how Christel has helped families by providing healthcare, counseling and job training opportunities. But, how does she do it? How is one person able to help so many?

If you ask Christel, she’ll tell you, “Poverty is an immense problem in our world. No single person can solve it alone.” And she’s right. Christel thinks of the children, now over 3,300 in the program, as her own. That’s why she continues to fund the efforts with her own money, and the generous donations of people like you. In fact, 100% of the donations she receives directly benefit those children and support their hard work to make a better future for themselves. That’s one of the best things about donating to Christel House – you can go here and see exactly what your donation will cover and who it can help.

Christel House has helped transform the lives of many children around the world. I’m honored and humbled to be so close to such a fantastic organization, and to its founder. I’ve met a lot of these children in person, and the drive and passion they demonstrate is absolutely moving. I encourage you to learn a little more about Christel House for yourself. I noticed that NO AMERICAN CHILDREN were pictured. I prefer to start my donations HERE with all of OUR CHILDREN THAT ARE HUNGREY and in need of decent clothes to go to school. I know very bright children that because they were WHITE AMERICANS could not get a good education.

Hi Kathy, thank you for sharing your concern. The Christel House learning centers are located in countries where RCI had much success during Christel DeHaan’s tenure. That includes a school in Indianapolis, IN, which is where RCI was founded and where Christel House’s international headquarters are located. The school currently serves 580 children in Kindergarten through 10th grade. Christel House plans to add the 11th and 12th grades over the next 2 years.

Christel House also shared the following information about their Indianapolis learning center:
"Over 90% of our students at the Indianapolis school are on the free and reduced lunch program, meaning their families are at or below the poverty threshold set by the U. S. government. Additionally, we are very proud to announce that the Christel House Dropout Recovery School will also open in Indianapolis in August of this year. This program provides adults age 18 and older who previously dropped out of school with an opportunity to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and college credits with a local community college."

I hope you had a chance to read the blogs from the Christel House U.S. teachers. Please feel free to check out the Christel House Academy section of the Christel House web site www.christelhouse.org to learn more about the school in Indianapolis. Thanks again for reading the RCI Blog!
