The first time I visited Walt Disney World, it was New Year’s Eve of ’08. It was one of the final stops of an East coast road trip, timed so that my husband and I could experience the midnight fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom. It was the best light show we had ever seen, bar none. The countdown to midnight was written in brightly colored fireworks and every angle of the sky was alight. And unlike the fairytale, it wasn’t over when the clock struck 12 o’clock. The party continued until 3am, from dance parties on Main Street to rides with virtually no lines. Since then I’ve been back to Disney almost every year. I love the rides and want to share 3 of my favorites:
1. Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom – I felt like I was at the top of Everest! There’s even a yeti when you reach the peak.
2. Soarin’ at Epcot –The experience felt like I was actually hang gliding over California! I could feel the fresh ocean breeze as I flew over the Golden Gate Bridge and even “dipped” my feet into the Pacific.
3. Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios – This one is definitely my all-time favorite. I have ridden this plummeting elevator at least a dozen times – but the most memorable part was the eerie bell hop who ushered me in.
I look forward to my next trip to Disney. With amazing fireworks shows and incredible rides, I hope you enjoy your next trip there, too!
This week on the RCI blog, we’ll be showing you photos and stories from RCI subscribing members who also took a vacation to Disney. Be sure to check back! And if you have a story or photo of your own, submit it here and maybe we’ll feature on this blog it at the end of the week!
