Cape Town, South Africa

My husband and I spent 2 weeks in February at the Strand Pavilion, a few miles outside of Cape Town, South Africa. The Strand Pavilion was a perfect choice because it was right on the ocean, with excellent accommodations and the friendliest staff we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. There were great restaurants and shops right there at the pavilion, and an expert tour guide to advise and transport us to local attractions as well as places off the beaten path. We were a tad anxious traveling that far without a group. But the staff there made us feel welcome and at home. We shopped at the local grocery stores and outdoor fish markets for seafood straight from the ocean. We prepared some of our meals on the Brai (their term for barbecue grill) just outside of our suite. We watched the sun rise and set from our patio. And shopped at the flea market along the oceanfront next to the Strand. I designed a ring and had it made by a local jeweler (for a fraction of what I would have paid in the states). If all of that wasn't enough, the staff surprised me with a bottle of wine and a lovely card for my birthday.
