Our trip on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas started out on Saturday, August 27. We were initially a little nervous because of the threat of Hurricane Irene, but the staff and crew on board were great and really put us at ease. They even got us out of port earlier than planned to avoid any potential issues with the weather.
I traveled with my 13 year old son. We had lunch at Johnny Rockets, walked on the deck, played shuffle board, ping-pong and miniature golf. And while his days were spent on the basketball court with all the new friends that he met, mine were filled with relaxing by the pool. At night we met up for dinner and the show and then he was off again to the teen night club or the arcade, while I took strolls along the promenade or one of the decks or danced the night away in the Chamber Lounge. Each night we finished with a cone from Ben & Jerry’s.
The fun even continued when we were off the ship. While we were in Bermuda, we swam with dolphins, which was an amazing experience. We learned so much about these mammals and loved getting up close and personal with them. We also visited Horseshoe Beach where the sand was pink and the water was crystal clear. This was one of the best trips we have ever taken…and I can’t wait to do it again!
Be sure to come back to the RCI Blog this week, where we will be showing photos and stories from RCI subscribing members who have taken a cruise. And if you can’t get enough about cruises, check back in December when we dedicate another week to cruising!
