It was winter 2010 and we were on round 3 of the never-ending snowfall here in the Northeast when my boyfriend and I decided we had to find an escape. We needed a quick pick-me-up, something close by…and with a little digging, we discovered our sunny solution— Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It didn’t take long to feel the icy chill melt away as we got closer to the beautiful beaches and blue waters of Fort Lauderdale. As we drove into town we were met by the happy glow of sun tanned visitors and the hustle and bustle of the South Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. strip, lined with boutiques, bars and yummy restaurants. Just a friendly word of advice: bring shoes that are comfortable to walk in… there’s so much to see and it can include a good amount of walking. And that was only our first day!
The rest of the trip included the following: Las Olas Blvd. and The Riverwalk (for even more dining and shopping!), an intracoastal water taxi ride, sightseeing celebrity homes and yachts (one bigger than the next!), dancing in nearby Miami, and a short road trip up the A1A highway to beautiful West Palm Beach.
Fort Lauderdale was the perfect getaway to cure our winter “blues”!
This week on the RCI Blog, we’ll be sharing stories and photos from RCI subscribing members who have traveled to Fort Lauderdale. Be sure to check back!
