Virginia Trip

I'm now a widow and wanted to take my children and their spouses on a trip so we could all be together for a week. After speaking with an RCI Vacation Guide, who recommended two, two bedroom units I decide to do it. I exchanged two weeks for two units in Massanutten, Va. We had a fabulous time with plenty of room for all. We explored the area and did some of the fun things at the resort. The resort was excellent for whatever you wanted to do. It has a fabulous water park, horse back riding, many different craft classes and much more. We were in the Summit part of the resort which has a great view of the mountains and valleys. If you go to the water park that can be a little pricey, but well worth it because it's so much fun.

Cape Cod Holiday Estates

We have been RCI subscribing members for a long time. One of the best exchanges we ever had was in 1990. My family was traveling the country in a VW van for a year. As luck would have it we were on the east coast in Maine when a hurricane was bringing unseasonable cold and wet weather. We called for an exchange and there was an opening in Cape Cod. It was a beautiful cottage that gave us shelter for a whole week. We explored all of the Cape and went to Boston. It was a wonderful and educational experience. During that year we also stayed in Park City, UT. RCI has made it easy to have wonderful vacations over the years. We just returned to Park City in Sept. for the 3rd time. Each time has been special. I hope some day to return to that cottage on the Cape.

Rhode Island trip 2009

We have been RCI subscribing members since 1982. Last month we had an amazingly wonderful vacation in Newport, RI at The Wellington. What is really exciting is that was the 50th state for us. In 47 years of marriage, we have now been to all 50 states (Rhode Island was the last), and over half of those have been vacation exchanges through RCI. The weeks we own at the Mariner Beach Club in St. Pete Beach, FL and our membership in RCI have been some of the best money spent in our lifetime!

Membership

I have been an RCI subscribing member for over 20 years. We have visited so many wonderful resorts, it's hard to pick just one that stands out. My story is one about just being a member of a quality organization that continues to enhance its services year over year and offers so many choices for vacationing. Although we've visited beautiful places over the years, I think my kids' favorite place is Lake Havasu in Arizona which happens to be the resort we own but one time, we ended up exchanging back into it because my kids wanted to go back and I had already banked my week!

Vermont Trip 2009

My mother, aunt, son and I went to the Smugglers' Notch Resort earlier this year. It was our very first exchange with RCI. I have never been to Vermont before and didn't know what to expect. The Vermont trip exceeded my expectations. I am one that likes to try different things all of the time and go to different places. I like adventure and to explore. This is one place that I would not mind returning to! I fell in love with the area. It is so beautiful with all of the trees and mountains. We went in May so I can just imagine how beautiful it would be in the fall when the leaves turn colors... how breathtaking it would be. We enjoyed horseback riding, a day trip to Montreal, hiking in the mountains and sight-seeing in Burlington. Our resort had a "Family Fun Zone" that my whole family enjoyed. There was something for everyone there...ping pong, mini-golf, rock climbing walls, pool tables, air hockey, foosball, video/arcade games, big slides for the kids and air filled stations for kids to go in and jump on and many other toys for kids of all ages. We all had a wonderful time enjoying everything the resort had to offer and the surrounding area. I would have to say it was one of my favorite vacations I have ever taken!

Our Trip to the Poconos

We've exchanged for many, many really nice vacations through RCI. One of our favorite family vacations was one we took several years ago to the Poconos. When we arrived at the resort we were asked if we would like to be moved to a larger unit (a 3 bedroom instead of the 2 bedroom we had traded into) we all said "YES!" We are a family of 6 and we always like to have more room. The place was very nice, the staff very helpful and friendly. We found lots to do at the resort and the surrounding area, we also took a day trip to NYC. One thing we will all remember is the wonderful homemade, huge cheesecakes that we purchased in the small nearby town. We bought one plain cheesecake and one chocolate chip cheesecake. There were huge, about as big as a medium-sized pizza...

Utah Trip 2008

Thanks RCI for another great vacation! Every year we get together with close friends and make an exchange through RCI. This year we decided to try Park City, Utah. The Miners Club was a beautiful resort, boasting a fireplace and all! A hot air balloon ride over Park City was the highlight to a wonderful time had by all! Our friend then had just started dialysis due to kidney failure and now is finding it much more difficult to travel. He will always treasure all the times we vacationed with him and I thank RCI for making our trips possible!

Park City, Utah 2006

Our trip to Park City (actually, the Canyon's area) is my favorite RCI story, because we had family vacationing with us. It was our first time to the area and although we didn't travel for snow skiing, we loved the area and were blessed with a beautiful snowfall in mid-October. Our 3, 2 and 1 year olds loved swimming in the very well-heated outdoor pool with snow all around at the Miners Club, where we stayed. My mother and father, youngest sister and her family were with us, and at first, we thought the trip might be bittersweet, as my mother's mother had passed away the week before our trip. Turns out the trip couldn't have been better. We took a wonderfully scenic train ride into one of the nearby towns, enjoyed downtown Park City, played bingo with other guests, and spent quality family time each evening around a warm, crackling fire from the fireplace in the living room. This vacation will always be one of, if not my favorite exchanges with RCI.

Trip to La Paz 2009

Some friends wanted us to caravan with them down to La Paz during Spring Break. With 2 weeks advance notice we were able to exchange our week through RCI for an affiliated resort in La Paz. We all drove down - camping along the way. This was the most beautiful drive. Arriving in La Paz three days later - we all enjoyed the accommodations. Great beaches, great restaurants. We love La Paz! Thank you RCI for a great vacation.

Cruising through Alaska’s Inside Passage

Leslie S. - Cruise and Travel NewsIt was a dream of mine to see Alaska…and in September that dream became a reality when I had the most amazing adventure aboard the Golden Princess on a cruise to the Inside Passage.  There were so many activities on the ship, so I was always able to find something fun to do.  One of the most exciting places on board was the Piazza.  While I was there, I felt like I was sitting at a sidewalk café in Europe.  Street performers juggled, danced, and performed magic tricks. And there was always really good food at the international café.

But the highlights of our trip to Alaska were the visits to the ports and our excursions…one which included whale watching! But the best excursion was the helicopter ride to the glacier in Skagway.  The ride over gave us the most amazing views and I was lucky enough to sit beside the pilot…which was the best view of all.  A guide met our helicopter and took us on a hike around the glacier. The glacier was beautiful and I am so glad I got to see it up close.

This was one of my most memorable vacations and a trip I would recommend to everyone.

Come back to the RCI Blog this week to find cruise-themed stories and photos from RCI subscribing members. And, as always, if you have a cruise story or photo of your own that you would like to share, click here.

A Dream Come True Vacation

A dream come true vacation - my husband, Rob and I went on our first cruise through an exchange with RCI - definitely not our last. I took this pic on one of our excursions. It's a Coliseum in ancient Ephesus where the Apostle Paul preached. I even got to sit right there in one of the seats and pretend I was hearing his voice. Thanks RCI.

An RCI employee unearths a hidden gem when she holidayed in the Maltese islands

Radhika S. - RCI India Travel InformationPlanning a vacation to an off beat destination is always very difficult, simply because there are so many of them! There is always enough information, both solicited and otherwise, available on more popular holiday destinations, so the excitement of visiting a place where few have travelled to, and being able to explore it, was one of the highlights of my recent Exchange Holiday to Malta.

If you are looking for a relaxed nothing-to-do holiday, this is NOT the destination. There is so much to see and do in Malta that a week seemed too short. For those who love historical monuments and archaeological sites, a holiday in Malta would be an absolute dream.

The Maltese archipelago is comprised of three islands located in the middle of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy and slightly north of the African continent. The largest of the islands is called Malta, with Valletta as its capital city. These islands are a haven for scuba divers. The scene below the water is serene and peaceful, and the underwater marine life is stunningly breathtaking, to say the least.

Our resort was located in Sliema—one of Malta’s main seaside tourist locations. Once a small village, Sliema buzzes with tourists now. St Julian’s and Paceville were just a few minutes walk, and the bus stop across the street meant that Valletta was just a bus ride away! All the units at the resort overlook the stunning Mediterranean Sea, with a lovely balcony to laze on and enjoy the ancient skyline of Valletta across the sea.

Nightlife in Malta consists mainly of a wide array of clubs and bars in the St. Julian’s area, or Paceville as the locals call it. There’s something for everyone: trance clubs, R&B and hiphop joints, salsa bars and alternative/rock bars. The clubs are all concentrated in the centre of Paceville, and the area spills over with party lovers on weekends. Besides the clubs, you’ll also find other kinds of entertainment in Paceville, including Malta’s largest cinema, a bowling alley, and sports bars.

After a relaxingly hectic week in Malta, I reluctantly packed my bags to head back to Bangalore, hoping to go back there once again—but knowing fully well that there were many more places that RCI has in store for me to explore, experience and enjoy!

We’ve gathered a great mix of stories and photos from RCI subscribing members who have traveled to India or who are from India. Please be sure to come back and take a look!

Cruise 2007

It was November 2007 and my family and I were excited about our cruise that we had obtained through an exchange. What we had failed to realize was that the cruise we had booked was within the same week of the teacher's convention in New Jersey. While the cruise ship did not seem overly populated by children, it left the Cape Liberty/Bayonne port without a hitch and off we sailed. On the second day of our cruise, both my wife and I were stunned. I could have never imagined that there could be so many kids. While many would potentially see this as a problem, I was very happy and both of my children were thrilled. Both of my children not only explored the beautiful Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas Vessel, but they established friendships with many of the other children that were sailing with us. During the day the kids swam in the pools while I relaxed in the hot tub and at night, they had fun with the various children's activities that the cruise counselors had planned. From basketball to ping pong, the kids were able to enjoy activities that they liked, while my wife and I enjoyed the various adult activities such as the shows and casino that were on board. The port of call which included one of my favorite stops, Aruba, had everyone in a good mood, especially my wife who walked away with a gorgeous diamond ring. The beaches were spectacular and we all took in the sun and great food from other cultures. This was truly one of the best vacations that we took as a family and I have RCI to thank for it.

Mexico Trip 2007

Our family usually vacations with our good friends. Our first trip to Mexico, was at a spot of their choice. We decided to go back in 2007, using our RCI deposited time. The wife was very hesitant about staying at a "timeshare resort" as her past experience was poor. However, we stayed at the Mayan Palace on the Riviera Maya. Well, safe to say, she was very impressed and no longer worried about the timeshare horror stories. Our friends were also on hand for our 2009 Cancun visit to the Moon Palace Golf and Spa, which was also an exchange through RCI. I do not think we will be able to go anywhere now without them. Thanks RCI, and our friends thank you too.

Mexico Trip 2008

My daughter's school decided in 2008 that they would not be able to take any international trips. Her older brothers and sisters were able to visit Europe and also Mexico. Needless to say, she was very disappointed. I then decided to try to take her to Mexico myself. I got on the internet and searched for an RCI vacation exchange. The great news was that there was an opening at the Mayan Palace on Riviera Maya available during our spring break. I quickly booked the week and then the airfare. I even rented a car for the week that we were down there. It has been one of the best and most rewarding vacations I have been on. We visited the Mayan Ruins, took the ferry over to Cozumel. Each day we traveled to a new destination and saw even more than she would have on her school trip. We went out for supper each night and did a lot of shopping. Yes, we danced at Senor Frogs! Having the rental car was easy and without it we wouldn't have been able to do all the things we did! We kept our cost down and really enjoyed ourselves on our schedule. This will most definitely be one of my top vacations.

Puerto Nuevo 2007

Thanks to RCI we were able to exchange our timeshare for a two-bedroom unit at the Mayan Palace Nuevo Vallarta which allowed us to bring our whole family on vacation with us. We took our twin boys who were 11 months old at the time and their grandparents and two aunts with us so we were able to have adult time, as well as share the boys' first experiences playing with the sand and waves. All of us had a great time. It was truly an unforgettable and beautiful vacation.

Mexico Trip 2008

During October 2008, we went on an RCI exchange vacation to the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. It turned out to be the best vacation exchange we ever took. It was the most beautiful timeshare resort we had ever seen and their lazy river around the resort was the longest we ever had been on. We did end up buying a timeshare at the Grand Mayan.

Germany: First International Exchange

Our first international exchange was to Mitterfels, Germany. This was also our first overseas vacation, so we were eager to experience as much local "culture" as possible. Imagine our delight to find that a motorcycle club was staying at our resort that weekend and there was a Beerfest, complete with Oompah band and giant pretzels and singing! A perfect introduction to Bavarian hospitality.
